PHOENIX ROAD

(I WAS IN YOUR) NEIGHBOURHOOD

Slipped past my turning
And I don’t know why
But I just kept  driving
As the day slipped to night
Well soon I’d lost my way,
But I did not mind
Alone with my thoughts
Just floating through time

The night was so warm
And the traffic was slight
It was strange at each junction
I seemed to catch a green light
Well I’d never been ‘round that way
Then suddenly I saw the place
Where we sat for hours
Just talking that day

I was in your neighbourhood
How I got there I dunno
By some magic I was on your road
I’d like to’ve seen you if I could
If only to say goodbye for good

Well I know that I hurt you
But those tears that you cried
Left a deep scar in me
As they ran from your eyes
I know I’ll never be the same
And I know that cut won’t heal
But I’ll never forget
How you made me feel

I was in your neighbourhood
Standing there your door
I couldn’t knock but - I couldn’t go
I’d like to’ve seen you if I could
If only to say goodbye for good

The words we left unsaid
Will echo inside my head
And you’ll always be there
When I close my eyes

I was in your neighbourhood
Like to’ve seen you one more time
But it would have blown my mind
I was in your neighbourhood
